New Year's in Big Bend
« on: November 06, 2013, 10:26:43 AM »
Does celebrating New Year's under the desert's starry sky appeal to you? Does matching the arid dry air with a sweet bubbly beverage make your mouth water?

Then join me for a week long juant through the Chihuahuan Desert of Big Bend Ranch State Park and National Park.

If interested reply below.

Tentaive Itinerary
27th Dec. - A pre-rally meet-up for the Dallas/Fort Worth participants is planned to meet at the Expo Center in Glen Rose, Texas and will roll out at 9:00am towards Marathon. The Official Meet Up Point for EVERYONE is at the burned down Shell Fuel Station in Marathon, Texas. Probably around 1530 to 1600. This will be the last realiable stop to refuel and to fill up your reserves. Please be refueled at Fort Stockton and have at least a spare 10 gallons (two 5 gallons Jerry Cans) in reserves! The National Park does offer fuel but it avialablity may not be there. We need to be at Panther Junction before 6pm to sign in and get our back-country permits. It is approximately a one and half hour's drive from Marathon to Panther Junction. Once signed in, we will figure were to camp depending on availability along Old Ore Road.

28th Dec. - Visit Boqillas Canyon, the Hot Springs, drive along River Road East, hike Pine Canyon, and camp at Robbers Roost (never been, sounds intriguing!). We will attempt to top-off our fuel tanks.

29th Dec. - Transverse Black Gap Road, visit Mariscal Mine, and continue west along River Road West to camp at Terlingua Abajo.

30th Dec. - Head out to Terlingua for re-fuel and re-supply before making our way to Sauceda Ranger Station, Big Bend Ranch State Park.

Note: With this schedule, it excludes hiking up Emory Peak, but puts us a day ahead in the State Park. Since a few have written that you want to spend more time in this area.

Itinerary for the Big Bend Ranch State Park:
31st Dec. Camp at Guale 2 and set-up for New Year's eve potluck and festivities.

4th Jan. End of Trip.

What days are we looking at? Rachel is off 12/21 - 1/6 and I'm pretty sure I can swing the time off.

Looks like a good group :)

Hey Foo.C I SWORE I saw you up here in Roanoke last week. I followed a guy with a JKUR EXACLY like yours. Same lift, wheels, tires, bumpers, tire carrier, even the AEV fuel can behind the spare. He even looked similar to you... It was weird.

Well I guess I should've listened better in geography class as I didn't realize how far away from Little Rock Big Bend is located.  After calculating fuel this trip would be just too expensive for me at the moment as my LC might get 12mpg on a good day!!  I still want to go pretty bad but I guess I'll have to wait until I can actually afford it.

Take a lot of pics!!
