Upcoming Adventures / Interest on a Arkansas Trip Jan 30 - Feb 1st?
« on: January 17, 2015, 12:28:54 PM »
My work has me traveling to Bentonville the week of Jan 26th.  I was contemplating taking Friday off and staying up there that weekend doing a few trails in Arkansas.  I also want to test out my new Icon lift!  Anyone interested?  I am not very familiar with the area and also do not have a winch so I will not go alone.  Prefer some additional trucks.  Let me know.

If anyone wants to brave the cold and rain this weekend, me and a buddy on here are going to explore the Ouichita Nat forest starting in Arkansas near Shady Lake.  We may head back into Oklhoama near the K-trail depending on time, hunters, road closures, and weather.  If anyone is interested let me know.  We are meeting up near Shady lake @ 1:00pm on Friday.  Stock TRD Taco and Lifted JK Rubi.

Vehicle Modification and Creation / Topguns New Taco

Well, after much debate I finally sold my FJC and went with a 2014 Black Tacoma TRD Off-Road.  I had a 2012 and missed it since the day I sold it.  Finally back to a truck again.  Cant wait to start my build thread.

First mod was a driver seat riser, as I like to sit up higher and see the road ahead.

Pics coming soon.

Just curious on what everyone's general thought is on a truck like this for a everyday vehicle and expedition rig.

I can do an even swap on my truck now (without the lift and tires which i will keep) for one of these.

My thinking is same monthly payments, brand new truck, 2yr free scheduled maint, full warranty, 14mpg to 20mpg.

I would plan on selling my current lift and tires to fund new ones for this truck.

First Pic Quote (I wont show you the damage lol)
"Baby, if you think this looks bad, it coulda been worse look at this video" (I wont mention any names Scott)  :D

Vehicle Modification and Creation / Topgun's BC FJ
« on: September 06, 2013, 09:36:54 PM »
Ok ok, so for those of you who dont know my FJ is Black Cherry, not Maroon, not Aggie, not purple... lol.

Purchased in October of 2012 as the 2nd owner with 64k miles.  Its a 2007 with an auto v6 4x4 with the Toyota locking rear diff.  It came with 285/70/17 BFG ATs almost worn out, and a Rough Country Spacer Suspension lift.

First mod was to install a Demello front bumper, followed by a K&N CAI and new BFG 285/70/17 ATs.  Had everything for about 5 months and realized the K&N was getting killed out on the trails from the dust in our convoy, so next up was a snorkel.  Only issue here was I no longer had the stock intake, and the K&N wouldn't accommodate a snorkel.  I posted on CL for 2 months and finally found someone willing to pay for mine, and throw in their stock air box.  As soon as I switched these out, I purchased and installed an Iron Man Snorkel from TRD Parts 4U here in Dallas.  Installed it myself and thought for a little bit that I messed up the drill out, but that story is for the campfire  :D

Next on the list was a way to monitor MPG, Miles to Empty, engine temps, etc, so I decided on a Ultraguage which was only $65 after rebate.  I ended up mounting it to the left dash and honestly think that everyone should have one.

Next after a trip with CO which led to driving the trails at night after a breakdown (not me), I realized I needed some off-road lights since my high-beams suck on the trail, so I opted for the cheap route with a pair of Harbor Freight ones.  Best $15 I ever spent, and still perform to this day even after the abuse they have been put through.

Next up was more towards maintence, but I changed out all fluids to Full Mobile 1 Synthetic, and also purchased new NGK spark plugs, and Neo Wipper Blades (3) lol.

After another CO trip, I realized my rear shocks were blown, so after much research I decided to go with an OME Heavy susp lift.  It was good at first, but then realized it was a very bumpy ride, and didnt have much flex.  It did however carry a huge load with no sag.  After long discussions with the store manager at 4wheel parts, he was able to let me switch out for free to another lift, which I chose a 3in Toytec adjustable coil over.  This was able to give me additional clearance in the front, and also a much softer ride (night and day diff).

As any avid Overlander knows after a new lift, one has to get new tires.  And with new tires, I decided I needed new wheels.  I really wanted a 16in wheel to give me more sidewall height, primarily for looks, but also rocks; however I really liked the look of the Toyota Stock Steelies, and they only came in a 17.  I found all 5 from someone in Arkansas on CL for only $150, and he even drove out to Texas to drop them off.  I then decided on a larger tire since the 285/70/17 BFG ATs were more like 32s on a good day, I really wanted some additional height as I was bottoming out a bunch, so I went with a 285/75/17 BFG MT.  It measures out at 32psi to 33.6in, and fit without any Body Mount Chop, and I am still able to run stock UCAs.  After selling my old wheels, tires, RC lift, and stock shocks, I was only out a total of $300 for all my new gear!

Next up on the list was protection, and first up is sliders.  Now I had the stock Toyota rock sliders, but as you know they dont stick out very far.  This posses an issue not only for protection, but it was also hard for my wife to get into the truck.  I used this as a buying point and was able to get her to let me grab some new ones.  I ended up selling my stock ones for $200, and won a free $100 at work in a gift card, and to make things better, I was able to find some brand new Demello Hybrid powder coated ones for $300, normally $450!  After last weekends drive out to Tyler Texas I installed them, and really love the way they look.

Thats all for now, but next up is Window tint to protect me from that hot Texas sun, followed by a full set of skid plates, and then a winch for up front.  More to come soon.

Market / Harbor Freight Badland Offroad Winch on sale for $299
« on: July 13, 2013, 12:23:16 PM »
I received a coupon for anyone in the market for a winch.  It is $200 off.  I am not sure how good it is, or the quality, but it sure is cheap...  Below is the link I received for the coupon.  I assume it would work for others too.
